How is a lab-grown diamond cut?

Cutting a lab-grown diamond follows the same process used for any gem-quality diamond: a skilled cutter studies the rough crystal, maps its internal structure, and plans cuts that maximize yield and optical performance. Lab-grown rough is produced in two main forms, HPHT cubic crystals and CVD columnar slabs, and each shape influences which finished cuts are most efficient to produce. IGI certifies the resulting cut grade on a scale from Excellent to Poor, and cut is the single factor most responsible for how much light a stone returns to the eye. Unlike color or clarity, cut grade is entirely a function of human craft, not growth conditions. A poorly cut lab-grown diamond will look duller than a well-cut stone of lower color or clarity, so prioritizing an Excellent or Very Good cut grade is the most reliable way to improve visible brilliance within a fixed budget.
