Ring size is a numerical measurement of your finger's inner circumference, expressed in millimetres across most European sizing charts. The two most reliable at-home methods are measuring an existing ring's internal diameter with a ruler, or wrapping a thin strip of paper around your finger, marking where it overlaps, and measuring that length flat. For reference, a common women's size in Europe is 52-54 mm circumference; men's typically falls between 60-65 mm. Valquère uses the standard European sizing scale, where a size 54 corresponds to an inner circumference of 54 mm, and if you know your size in a different standard, such as US or UK, a conversion table maps those directly to European measurements. You can also request a free plastic strip sizer by post or download a printable paper sizer before placing an order. The strip format works by looping it around the base of your finger, pulling it snug, and reading the size directly off the scale; sizing at the base matters because that is where a ring actually sits, not at the knuckle. If your knuckle is noticeably wider than the base, size for the knuckle and plan for a sizing bead to keep the ring in place. Timing matters more than most buyers expect: fingers expand in heat, after exercise, and toward the end of the day, so an evening measurement gives a truer reading. Salty food and alcohol cause temporary swelling, which can skew results by a full size, and factors such as pregnancy or gradual weight change can shift your size by half a grade or more. Taking three to four measurements across different times and conditions gives a reliable baseline, which is especially worth doing before ordering a pavé or channel-set band, since resizing risks displacing stones. If you are between sizes, size up rather than down, since resizing a ring larger is generally simpler than reducing it.
