What is an Alpa lock on earrings?

An Alpa lock is a spring-loaded safety clasp used on earrings to prevent accidental loss. The mechanism works by retracting into a small internal gap when released, holding the earring post firmly in place. Two side buttons, pressed simultaneously, allow the clasp to open for insertion or removal. Unlike a standard butterfly back, the Alpa lock does not rely on friction alone, which makes it significantly more secure during daily wear. The spring tension is consistent across uses, so the fit does not loosen over time the way a push-back fitting can. For lab-grown diamond earrings, where the stones are set in precious metal and represent a considered purchase, this level of retention matters. If you wear earrings continuously or during physical activity, an Alpa lock is worth specifying when selecting a setting style.
