What is a rivière design in jewelry?

A rivière is a jewelry setting in which diamonds are mounted in a continuous line, stone touching stone, with no visible gaps between them. The result is a single unbroken band of brilliance running the full length of the piece. Most rivière designs use matched stones of identical diameter, though graduated versions taper from a larger center stone outward to smaller ones at each end. Because the setting relies on the stones themselves as the visual statement, cut precision and color consistency matter more here than in almost any other style. Lab-grown diamonds are particularly well suited to rivière jewellery, as they offer a high quality in colour, clarity, and cut across a matched set of stones. This uniformity is easier to achieve at Valquère's price point than with comparable mined diamonds. If you want a necklace or bracelet that reads as clean and architectural rather than ornate, a rivière layout delivers that without added metalwork.
