What does cut quality mean for a lab-grown diamond?

Cut quality describes how precisely a diamond's facets are shaped and aligned to interact with light, and it is graded independently of whether the stone grew in the earth or a laboratory. IGI grades lab-grown diamond cut on a five-tier scale: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, and Poor. An Excellent-cut stone returns light through the table efficiently, producing brightness and contrast visible to the naked eye. A lower cut grade, by contrast, lets light leak through the pavilion, reducing visual impact regardless of how high the colour or clarity grades are. Cut is the one quality factor controlled entirely by the cutter, not by the rough crystal, which makes it the most consequential grade to check before any other. For a lab-grown diamond, where the price-per-carat is already more accessible than a mined equivalent, spending within your budget on a higher cut grade rather than a larger carat weight typically produces a more visually impressive stone.
