What does clarity mean for a lab-grown diamond?

Clarity describes the presence and visibility of internal inclusions and surface blemishes in a lab-grown diamond, graded on a scale from Flawless to Included. IGI grades lab-grown diamonds on the same 11-point clarity scale used for mined stones, ranging from FL (Flawless) to I3 (Included). Because lab-grown diamonds form under controlled conditions, they can still develop crystal inclusions, pinpoints, or feathers during growth, just as diamonds formed underground do. The practical question for buyers is whether inclusions are eye-clean, meaning invisible without magnification. Grades of VVS2 or VS1 are typically eye-clean and represent strong value at Valquère's price points. Chasing FL or IF clarity rarely improves visible appearance and adds cost without a perceptible difference in a finished setting. For most ring designs, VVS2 to VS1 is the range worth focusing on.
